– terrestrial archaeology and solar system history – news headlines archive – July 11 to 20 2004 – new discoveries about ancient civilisation under ancient skies –

The Morien Institute - The events of July 16th to 22nd 1994, when the remnants of a fragmenting comet, P/Shoemaker-Levy 9, bombarded the surface of Jupiter causing fireballs many times the size of our own planet, were an abrupt wake-up call even for those who were aware of them. The historical sciences generally, and archæology in particular, have collectively painted a picture of the past as if our planet stands alone in empty space. Nothing could be further from reality. Our restless planet exists in a solar system that has experienced a very dynamic history over the past 20 to 30 millennia, and it is only from this perspective that the true history of human civilisation will ever be fully understood. The Morien Institute archive therefore contains relevant material from many disciplines

The events of July 16th – 22nd 1994, when the remnants of a fragmenting comet, P/Shoemaker-Levy 9, bombarded the
surface of Jupiter causing fireballs many times the size of our own planet, were an abrupt wake-up call even for those
who were aware of them. The historical sciences generally, and archæology in particular, have collectively painted
a picture of the past as if our planet ‘stands alone in empty space’. Nothing could be further from reality. Our
restless planet exists in a solar system that has had a very dynamic history over the past 20 millennia or more
and it is only from this wider solar system perspective that the true history of human civilisation can ever
be fully understood. Therefore, The Morien Institute archive contains information from many disciplines

“Biological Time”

Bernie Taylor

US Edition Only

but available

worldwide

“Biological Time presents an extraordinary hypothesis about how plants and animals are timed and the knowledge of this phenomenon by prehistoric, ancient and indigenous people. The work is supported with archeological evidence and a wide range of examples from salmon, deer, and geese to grapes.

Biological Time is for the naturalist, outdoors person, scientist and all those who wonder what clocks nature follows.

The works of art in the cave at Lascaux, France, dating back to 17,000 years ago, were solar-lunar calendars that aided Ice-Age men in knowing when and where to hunt large mammals.

The works of art in the cave at Lascaux, France, dating back to 17,000 years ago, were solar-lunar calendars that aided Ice-Age men in knowing when and where to hunt large mammals. Ancient Mesopotamian calendars and religious rituals were used to time the opportune periods to harvest a wide range of plants and animals.

The solar-lunar calendars and ceremonies of indigenous people on the Northwest Coast of North America and in the South Pacific Islands were primarily designed to gauge when fish are most easily harvested.”

“The Treasure
of Alaric”

Daniel Costa

EU English Edition

“Alaric, King of the Visigoths, died in 410 A.D., a few months after he conquered and plundered Rome. The Visigoths, who believed that gold was important to have in the next world, buried him with fabulous riches in a secret location near Cosenza, Southern Italy. Modern scholars suppose that, while in Rome, Alaric seized the sacred treasure of the Jews, which had been captured by the Romans of Titus in 70 A.D. It has been speculated that the massive, golden Menorah of the Jerusalem Temple, shown on the spine and on the front cover, might be buried with Alaric.

King Alaric’s campaigns played a significant role in the gradual dismemberment of the Western Roman Empire, which in turn led to the foundation of the Western European nations and the spread of the Judeo-Christian civilization all over the globe. The disastrous decisions of Emperor Honorius, an intolerant Christian suspected of psychiatric disorder, contributed to the fury of Alaric and gave the Papacy the first opportunity to intervene in secular politics.

Many treasure hunters, including Reichs Führer-SS Heinrich Himmler, have tried in vain to find Alaric’s grave, which has an inestimable archaeological, historical and symbolic value for the entire Judeo-Christian world. Three amateur archaeologists from Cosenza discovered a site, which, in their opinion, is the final resting place of the King. Could this be it?”

“The Long Summer: How Climate Changed Civilization”

Brian M. Fagan

EU English Edition

“For more than a century we’ve known that much of human evolution occurred in an Ice Age. Starting about 15,000 years ago, temperatures began to rise, the glaciers receded, and sea levels rose. The rise of human civilization and all of recorded history occurred in this warm period, known as the Holocene.
