The Morien Institute May 2003 Astro-archæology Expedition took place
from Sunday May 25th., 2003, to Sunday June 1st, 2003. Each day we tried to post an ‘expedition log’ containing a new page of photographs, and we had hoped that this would have culminated in us being able to get some great images of the ‘annular solar eclipse’ which occured at sunrise on Saturday May 31st 2003
As it turned out the weather was not kind to us, and none of the estimated 500+ skywatchers gathered in the Orkneys for the event was able to get even a glimpse of the eclipse due to low cloud. However, we did manage to survey a number of megalithic sites, and the despatches that were posted most days show a number of images that we hope to make freely available in printer-friendly versions in the coming weeks
Visitors wanting to find these sites on their own at other times would be wise to get a copy of the
Landranger Map No.6, which shows the location of all megalithic sites on the Orkney Islands
